Dear Prof. Gerson,

It’s my pleasure to submit my application for your social media course.

Throughout my six years of being a journalism student, I have accumulated a wide range of skills within multimedia. I also currently work for a small marketing team where I create content for social media accounts for businesses. This experience gives me a good basis for this class as I am more than ready to take the next step into social media journalism, and learn how to further engage communities.

Through my current job I have produced multimedia for Instagram and Yelpfor a small business. My main role is building a platform through the use of engaging imagery on social media. With my experience I can apply my skills with a camera to produce the content, and then use editing skills though photoshop and lightroom to refine it for marketing purposes. To better understand engagement through visuals I am subscribed to newsletters such as one from REI which focuses on my favorite interest, the outdoors. I analyze how they target other adventure seekers through the use of photos of grand landscapes, and blogs showcasing new places to travel.

I am confident that I can handle any assignment that involves content creation throughout this course through the use of my skills. What I want to learn in this course is the engagement aspect of social media journalism, as well as how to build a presence. Through building a presence I hope to use it to further my career as a freelance journalist and photographer.

Sincerely,

Nick Martinez
